| It is still possible to download free music from the internet using Peer to Peer (P2P) applications. These P2P networks allow you to share MP3 files with other computer users just like you. The largest of these networks are Gnutella and Soulseek. You access these networks by downloading and installing one of their clients. For the Gnutella network you would download Lime Wire (link below) or Morpheus. The Soulseek network requires the Official Soulseek Client to be downloaded. The applications and clients listed are for PC users. Mac users will have to download Acquisition (Gnutella) or Soulseex (Soulseek).
Upon downloading and installing one of these clients such as the popular LimeWire / LimeShare one, you will be taken through a few basic steps to set up and use the program on your computer. Just follow the instructions given upon installation. Basically it will ask you to designate a "shared" folder on your hard drive (if you want to) that will be the folder your computer uses to download and/or upload free music. From this file you will be able to copy your free music downloads to Windows Media Player or RealPlayer or whatever program you desire to use on your computer. Files can also be copied to iTunes and similar programs for downloading to iPod type players. When you install one of the clients for accessing free music downloads it will open up your computer for other P2P users to access the songs you have in your download file. You can prevent these programs from accessing your files by merely clicking the appropriate box in the settings menu. This way you can control access to your music files to specific times you designate, or not at all if you choose. The ability to download free music is still available to you. Why not give it a try?
